Talking to rocks…..
I love rocks, and I talk to them too…
I know it may sound crazy to some, but it’s the honest truth.
In fact I have loved rocks since I was a little girl and collected them wherever I went.
As a teenager I found a local store that carried all sorts of beautiful crystals and rocks and for the first time learned that these crystals and rocks also has spiritual meanings–this was incredible to me, and, changed everything about how I related to them.
Soon I had small rocks and crystals all over my dresser and windows and several books on how to use them spiritual and for healing. You could say I was smitten or better yet– enchanted!
Fast forward me about 15 years, when a friend of mine who decided to get into jewelry making who had the cash to buy some pretty amazing beads and pendents to play with, all of them semi precious and beautiful!
Up until then I had a few special necklaces, but nothing noteworthy, or very special.
But my friends necklaces were amazing, I mean really truly beautiful and I was enchanted by the thought that I too could make something that could not be found in the store, that was made by me, and that had stones in it that had a special meaning, either for healing, to give me confidence, or calm me, etc…
I watched my friend as she created her special pieces and had her make one for me, she sharing her knowledge of how to make the necklaces, and me with my knowledge of the stones and their special meanings.
The piece that she made was the most special piece of jewelry that I owned and just wearing it made me feel great, in fact I still have all the beads and still remember it fondly–it was made with big turquoise beads and had a butterfly carved out of brown stone as a pendent–I loved it!
Once lesson later I found that I also had a bit of a knack for making necklaces and the rest was history!
As most of these things go it was a “hobby ” of mine for many years, but soon I found that I had several trays of beads and was making necklaces for friends and family and often was asked if I would sell them.
My friend in the meantime decided that she was called elsewhere on her path and I bought all of her beads from her-lucky me!
Then about a year ago when I sold my midwifery shop, and I decided that the time had come to get some proper wholesale prices for my “hobby” and to take it to the next level.
At the time I was deeply immersed with my shamanic world and study, and found that a few of the women whom I was studying with wanted a special piece that reflected their personal spiritual life as well.
Together we journeyed and set an intention for what this piece would mean for them asking their guides, meditating on it and finding a lot of joy.
This process proved to be very powerful for both myself and the women whom I made pieces for, so powerful in fact that my entire process of jewelry making changed, and has not been the same since.
Working with the stones and setting an intent for each piece regardless of if I know who the eventual owner will be changed not only how my pieces looked, but also, each person who has bought one of my pieces can feel the energy of the piece.
I feel that it is much like buying perfume, not every scent smells good mixed with our body’s hormones, even when they smell great in the bottle.
I have made several pieces that I loved so much I could not bear to sell it, but once I put it on I was disappointed to see that it simply did not look good on me–the colors did not shine….
The piece shown here was one I wanted very much, the beads shone in my hands while I was making it, and I was crazy excited to try it on, only to see that it was not destined to be mine :{ Someone special will get it though, now that I have it in my store.
Making spiritual jewelry is an intuitive process and involves me giving up how I think things ought to be and work with what spirit guides me to do.
As soon as I started making jewelry this way people started reacting to it in amazing ways.
Making a piece for someone looks much like this:
First we set an intention for the piece–this can be anything from invoking more confidence, creating a piece for giving birth either to a baby or a creative project, a fertility piece, or a piece to represent something deeply personal that also reflects their spiritual life-there is no limit for intention.
The next step is colors and the pendent, we chat on the phone or via e-mail etc… and decide on what colors the person is drawn to for this piece etc…
I then connect with my guide for this work and sit down to my palate of beads and colors and start pulling strands, it is very intuitive and often I am able to go quite deep.
If I am making a piece for someone else I am constantly checking to see if this stone or that stone is being called or not–usually it is all about the healing properties of the stones and what that specific person needs in their life at that moment.
The process is really simple, if a person is drawn to all purples, or blues etc… then there is always a reason, and often after the necklace is made and the person receiving it learned what the stones mean tears well up and personal meaning fills the necklace in an even deeper way then it had before.
The next and last step is to either e-mail photos or sit down in person and have the person make a final choice on the stones and Pendent I will use.
Lastly I sit down to make the piece, this part of the process is best kept off the internet though, I am sure you will agree~
What I can say is that I often follow the cycles of the moon and that each piece once made is cleaned and charged under a copper pyramid.
This is the difference between a piece of costume jewelry and something made from
spirit.
Recently I was working at my dining room table and had everything spread out, when one of the mothers Monica from my son’s school turned up to get her son and decided to have a look at some of the pieces made telling me that she was “not usually into this kind of thing” but recently had discovered healing using crystals.
Right away she spotted a Peruvian pink opal piece I made months ago and could not imagine her liking-but I watched as her face softened holding it, and then could not take it off.
So I offered to show her the meanings of the stones, to see if they resonated with her.
Needless to say the piece went home with her, it was meant for her~
I love rocks!
