This past week-end we jumped on a ferry and went over to the island where Sohrab’s parents live and spent 4 days relaxing, playing at the beach and visiting local farms, this seems to always set the world to rights again and make me very happy!
The trip over was very windy, but the mountains on the ocean never fail to take my breath away!
I have plans later this month for a “ladies only” strawberry mead making day and a “kids only” marshmallow making day, so I was on a quest for visiting some local farms to get large crate of local strawberries. But then there was so much more, and I had to pick up a box of beautiful multi-colored eggs and a fer bars Organicfair chocolate that I adore, especially when the flavors are Alder smoked sea salt and sundried apples, Honey and Rose, and Peppermint Mandarin! Oh and the locally made Soda syrups! Seriously, until one has tried real Root beer made with local herbs and proper sassafras, well lets say life is better with it!
We played on the beach and Zahra and I made “beach art” constructing an Inukshuk and a seaweed and crab mandala.
Of course there was also some relaxing and good old simple having fun, not to mention the deer, eagles, otters, small snakes and other local fauna that came to visit us.
On the last day down the deer trail, as we like to call it, there was an intense smell of rotting fish, which I soon discovered was actually eagle poop, wow that stuff is potent. How did I know it was eagle poop you ask? Well all along the grass edge was a scattering of molted eagle feathers and of course loads of their poop. It seems that a couple of eagles decided to make this their resting place for a bit, and managed to shed many feathers while they were at it to my delight!
After leaving thanks and offerings I gathered up a small bouquet of the feathers and some beautiful arbutus driftwood for rattle making, we packed the car and said our goodbyes and headed back to the city, filled up on quality family time spent, and deep gratitude.
